Topic: Big Data for COVID-19 prevention - useful or problematic?
When: Tuesday, 9 June 2020, 4 to 5 pm
Speakers: Dr Oskar J. Gstrein & Dr Sebastian J. Golla
Language: German
In times of a pandemic, data are essential. Using it makes it possible to understand complex relationships, to control them and to prepare for future developments. However, the collection, analysis and storage of large amounts of data also has its price. First, individual and collective autonomy is severely restricted. In the longer term, there is a need for protective mechanisms that prevent the misuse of those systems and apps that are currently being hastily developed and implemented. Is the use of "Big Data" for COVID-19 prevention sensible? How can it succeed?
