The world's largest prevention Congress celebrates its 25th Jubilee

In 2020, the German Prevention Congress (DPT) will celebrate its 25th jubilee! This successful and much enjoyed event will welcome German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as patron of this prestigious anniversary Congress. As a reflection of changing times, this year’s Congress — which includes the 14 th Annual International Forum –– will discuss the digital revolution. The main topic of the 25 th Jubilee is to be “Smart Prevention – Prevention in the Digital World.”

Taking place in Kassel, Germany, Monday 27 to Tuesday 28 April 2020, organisers are expecting over 3,000 participants to attend from prevention practice, research and policy. In addition to numerous scientific and practice-oriented lectures, visitors can also look forward to a large exhibition and many other formats at the Congress Palais in Kassel.

The digital revolution is fundamentally changing our everyday lives and the way people live together. Direct effects on the prevention of crime and violence are evident. New phenomena are emerging that require new approaches. Established responses – from the criminal law classification to the appropriate prevention strategy – are not (yet) available at many points. Much remains open, which leads to uncertainties and fears. On the other hand, there are various new opportunities that need to be identified and exploited.

Therefore, the Congress and international forum will see international experts from all areas of crime prevention introducing, sharing and discussing ideas, goals, outcomes, projects and speeches with other experts and experiencing the modality of crime prevention.

More information on the upcoming congress is available on the DPT website. If you want to know what the last congress was like, watch this short video with a few reflections and interviews.
